Manifesto

The Idea of Pixel & Paper is to re-create the convention experience, this is about the artists and the customers/fans. This is a passion project for ourselves and the beginning of a new business venture. That is why we think that it is important to talk about our expectations and listen to yours.

As business owners it is easy to get stuck in a monetary way of thinking, everything and everyone can become numbers on a spreadsheet. While it is important as a business to be financially viable, if that means we alienate our artists and customers, to be blunt; what's that point. We will however, strive to help and market artists who partner with us, to be as successful together as much as possible. I personally like to call this ethical retail. To be transparent about our finances, the shop on Widemarsh street has a low upkeep. Low rent, no business rates (RV) and minimal utilities costs put us in an excellent position. My hope with informing everyone about this is to instill confidence in us as a business, but also to remove some of the stigma we in this country have when talking about money.

Next I would like to talk about AI. The ethical problems of AI art have gotten increasingly worse over the last couple of years. It has gotten to the point where most advertisements I personally see, online or in person have some form of AI use. Sadly I think it will continue to get worse for the foreseeable future. While it is definitely a fad of sorts, I believe it is important to make a statement on the issue. We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to AI art.  We don’t/won’t use it nor will we have any use in our store. If anyone of our collaborating is found out to be using AI in our store, your contract will be immediately terminated.

We are going to be a small business especially in the beginning. While we will continue to have grand dreams for our future, our expectation is to start small and build from there. But I want to pledge to those who are working with us that we will do everything in our power to market and sell your works. Through social media, word of mouth and time we will work to make this business successful.

With that, thank you for reading this letter,

All the best and to the future,

Dominic & Tania Godber
