Guide and Rules

Welcome to Pixel & Paper, In this section, you will find all the information you need to start your journey as a colaborating artist with us.

Thank you for being part of our project, and don't hesitate to contact us if anything is unclear!

Manifesto

The Idea of Pixel & Paper is to re-create the convention experience; this is about the artists and the customers/fans. This is a passion project for ourselves and the beginning of a new business venture. That is why we think that it is important to talk about our expectations and listen to yours.

As business owners, it is easy to get stuck in a monetary way of thinking, everything and everyone can become numbers on a spreadsheet. While it is important as a business to be financially viable, if that means we alienate our artists and customers, to be blunt; what's that point. We will however, strive to help and market artists who partner with us, to be as successful together as much as possible. I personally like to call this ethical retail. To be transparent about our finances, the shop on Widemarsh street has a low upkeep. Low rent, no business rates (RV) and minimal utilities costs put us in an excellent position. My hope with informing everyone about this is to instill confidence in us as a business, but also to remove some of the stigma we in this country have when talking about money.

Next I would like to talk about AI. The ethical problems of AI art have gotten increasingly worse over the last couple of years. It has gotten to the point where most advertisements I personally see, online or in person have some form of AI use. Sadly I think it will continue to get worse for the foreseeable future. While it is definitely a fad of sorts, I believe it is important to make a statement on the issue. We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to AI art.  We don’t/won’t use it nor will we have any use in our store. If anyone of our collaborating is found out to be using AI in our store, your contract will be immediately terminated.

We are going to be a small business especially in the beginning. While we will continue to have grand dreams for our future, our expectation is to start small and build from there. But I want to pledge to those who are working with us that we will do everything in our power to market and sell your works. Through social media, word of mouth and time we will work to make this business successful.

With that, thank you for reading this letter,

All the best and to the future,

Dominic & Tania Godber

Selection process

What Happens After You Apply

  • Response time: You’ll hear back from us within one month.

  • Selection process: (not first-come, first-served). Some of the aspects we will look at are:

    • Originality & creativity

    • Craftsmanship

    • Variety of products (bringing something new)

    • Professional presentation

We always aim to keep the process welcoming for emerging artists, and showing strength in even one of these criteria can be enough to be selected.

If You’re Accepted

You will need to meet with us to discuss your spot and contract (this can be done online). Once the contract is signed you will be asked to pay a deposit and one month's rent. An agreement can be reached if you wish to pay a deposit at a later date. If we do not receive a deposit within the agreed time then your place may be given to someone else. Afterwards we will discuss a date when you are able to start. We will help you with your setup.

Waitlist

If all our shelves are full, we will add you to our waitlist and assign you a position. We will email your position if asked and keep you updated for when a spot opens for you. After receiving our email to offer you a spot, you'll then have 14 days to confirm it. If we do not hear back within 14 days, we will offer the spot to the next artist on the waitlist.
